A Billion to One: An American Insider in the New China By
Gene Ayres

Based on
his exploits and adventures teaching spoken English in the
People’s Republic of China, Gene Ayres takes the travel
adventure to a new realm and new dimension interwoven with
social, political and environmental observations and satire, as
well as serious local and global issues. In China he married one
of the locals and became one, while at the same time knowing
that, not being Chinese, he would never fit in. Taking raw
freshman students right out of military boot camp, he taught
them to think for themselves, and be their own person: a radical
concept in China, but rapidly catching on. In short, he became
Jack Black in School of Rock, except at a Chinese state
university instead of private prep school.

Come Live with me on Mars by C. Joseph Socha
Publisher: Xlibris
Corporation

"There is no life on Mars." "There is no life on Mars" "There is
no life on Mars." They say. Somebody named the planet Mars after
a Roman God of War. Not the Planet's idea. Scientists say there
is no life on Mars. Can't be because conditions there are
uninhabitable for creatures like us... they say. What is really
up there? Perhaps life, yes? Really life? Perhaps truly loving
creatures devoted to the pure, natural sense of love, not the
word, but in deeds? Why not?
Alien
Opportunities by Kurt Rellians
Publisher: AuthorHouse UK DS
ISBN-10: 1425932916

The short erotic novel, Alien Opportunities, is an
alternative present fantasy about the impact of alien visitors
on Earth's society, culture and economy. It tells the story of
Chris who lives on Earth at a time when aliens from an
ostensibly peaceful and friendly planet have arrived on Earth
and set up companies to trade with us. Chris is unhappy with his
nine to five job, and finds out that the alien arrival has
created new opportunities for work in alien employment. He finds
himself new work, working for the aliens, and comes into contact
with their sexual desires. The novel is erotic, but is as much a
science fiction scenario with a sociological setting. The book
is not merely a simple tale of erotic behavior in ordinary
scenarios. It seeks to imagine what the alien society of
Starmanena, which has very different attitudes towards sex from
our own, might be like, and what might happen if it came into
contact with ours. Without attempting to be too descriptive of
the detail of these two opposing societies, the novel follows
the fortunes of Chris, raised in the sexually restricted
lifestyle of Earth, as he comes into contact with Starmanenans
and goes to work among them. Chris comes to appreciate the
aliens, but is unable to overcome various doubts about them. Are
the aliens engaged upon a mission to lure the brightest and best
among us to a life of slavery or even worse depravity in the
stars, as many suspect? Or are the aliens benign? Are they
inevitably winning because they offer what Earth society on its
own could not give, i.e. sexual liberation, paternal or maternal
guidance, and freedom from the commercial imperative.

El Tigre by John H. Manhold
Publisher: Shoot Magazine; first edition
ISBN-10: 0972638342

El Tigre is a fast moving story that chronicles the life of
Johann Heinrich von Manfred from his youth as a student in a
Prussian military academy through his many exciting and
dangerous adventures. From Spain to the Americas, from Florida
to Texas, and finally, the gold laden frontier of California,
the action is fast and sometimes brutal, but the young Von
Manfred, now known as El Tigre, maintains his dignity and
principles through it all. El Tigre will keep you on the edge
from start to finish! --Ray Walters, Editor Shoot!Magazine EL
TIGRE! For many years these words were the source of intense
fear and respect throughout the southwestern territories of the
growing United States. It was the name by which the jaguar was
known. This incredibly fast, strong, fearless, resourceful
animal was of almost mythical proportions because its deadly
actions seldom were seen until it was too late. It was with
great respect and awe that Johann Heinrich von Manfred became
known as El Tigre. Johann's saga begins in Prussia in the time
when that small kingdom was the most powerful military force in
Europe and it follows his journey from boyhood to maturity
through half of the world. His entry to the Prussian Military
Academy shortly after the Napoleonic Wars was, as all Prussian
Junker children, at 10 years of age. There follows an account of
how his militaristic abilities and youthful audacity, along with
a little misfortune, lead to his departure to engage in
conflicts in France, Spain, New Spain, Texas, Mexico, and
finally Old California. It is a tale unlike that of most
Europeans who migrated to America. It follows through his
efforts to aid a simple band of gypsies in the Pyrenees followed
by efforts on behalf of Carlos, the Royal Pretender to the
Spanish Throne, and continues with his involvement in the
establishment of the Republic of Texas and the State of
California, while finding a love that he never could have
thought possible with the militaristic training and life he had
lived. His abilities in all of these activities were such that,
especially to the inhabitants of the southwestern territories of
his later endeavors, only one name was sufficient to describe
this, and only this, one person. He was El Tigre.

5 Shots by Jemir Johnson
Publisher: Creative Elamentz Studios
ISBN-10: 0615161405

The graphic novel 5 Shots by Jemir Robert Johnson weaves five
tales of murder, mayhem, and action surrounding Jay Nova; an
African American investigator who has the gift of reading the
minds of others. In Dead Line she has to find a way to save her
partner, Randy, by finding something the men holding him want.
The story Sunset finds Jay looking for a missing person only to
end up as prey. The Knight in Question has Jay searching for a
rappers friend's killer, but her search yields a secret that
could damage his street credibility. Forward Fast has Jay and
Randy searching for someone held for ransom only to gather that
the very person they were paid to find may have ratted them out;
blowing their cover.
Burning Flag puts Jay in a compromising position. She owes an
ex-friend a favor but this `friend' wants her dead. Will her
psychic abilities alert her? Or will Jay Nova only exist in
memories?
5 Shots was an intense, quick read. The graphics were on point
and realistic. The editing made it difficult to understand and,
at some points, I was unable to tell who was talking or if some
of the stories were narrated. It was refreshing to see an
African American woman with such strong qualities though. It was
obvious that Jay Nova could pull her weight in the male
dominated world of investigations. Graphic novel fans and those
who enjoy Jemir Robert Johnson's work will truly enjoy 5 Shots.

the influence of writers of the Beat Generation, such as William

Incantation of the Law Against Inept Critics: A Guide to
Cryptic Thinking by Morten St. George
-

Systematic decoding of the Nostradamus
prophecies leads to speculation on alien authorship of some
of the prophecies. Morten St. George's "Incantation of the Law Against Inept Critics: A Guide to
Cryptic Thinking" takes up the ancient astronaut
gauntlet. But there's no stone here. Now, it's not a
question of what the ancient astronauts did, but of what
they left behind. Deception cryptography leads the way. The
only claimed deployment of this unique and formidable type
of cryptography is in forty two prophetic stanzas published
by Nostradamus in the 16th century. So was Nostradamus an
alien? Hardly, but the book asserts he was the last guardian
of an alien artifact. What's the evidence? A breakthrough
unraveling of deception cryptography by means of cryptic
thinking leads to more than a remarkable account of world
history from Hiroshima to September 11, inclusive of who was
behind the JFK assassination. The book alleges that several
of the prophecies were set aside to provide other types of
information, pointing to the name of their author, to when
they were written, and to the galactic coordinates of where
their author came from. More information about the book can
be found at the Cryptic Thinking Official Site:
http://www.crypticthinking.com. A special highlight of
the site is a series of internationally popular articles
about the book's themes, entitled "Nostradamus Linked to the
Kabbalah," 'JFK Conspiracy and Other Historical Secrets,"
"The Mechanics of Deception Cryptography," and "Aliens:
Where SETI Astronomers Can Find Theme."

When two scientists who have discovered the cure for cancer
are targeted, a Washington, D.C., private investigator is
enveloped in the case, recruiting a small-time drug dealer
to help him get to the bottom of the mystery. Russell G.
Johnson's new thriller, A Cure for All (now available
through AuthorHouse), weaves true facts about cancer
research with an entertaining, nail-biting storyline of
modern-day corruption. Jefferson Stewart III, a divorced,
patriotic civil servant with two children, is an Army
Special Forces vet who spent 15 years on the Washington,
D.C., police force. An unassuming guy with high moral
standards, his only indulgence is a wardrobe of fancy
clothes. His girlfriend, Sandra Randall, a prosecutor whose
wealthy family disapproves of their relationship,
inadvertently gets wrapped up in the case and at one point,
faces a sniper's bullet. After the death of one scientist and
the disappearance of another, Jefferson learns the two
researchers had found the cure for cancer. A powerful group
of business leaders learn of the find, and they begin a
campaign to keep the treatment off the market. Although a
fictional story, Johnson offers thought-provoking insight
into the actual state of cancer research today, the debate
about misdirected research funding and the manipulative
influence of medical companies who hide breakthroughs to
protect their financial bottom When people around Jefferson
start dying, he realizes this case is too much to handle
alone. He enlists Tyrone Adams, a young man with an aging
grandmother and 12-year-old brother. Recently home from a
heartbreaking tour in Iraq, Tyrone has started dealing drugs
again. He knows if he stays in the business he will end up
in jail, if not dead. Eventually Jefferson calls on friends
from his military past to help. An exciting page-turner, A
Cure for All engages readers with an investigation in the
nation's capital that seeks to expose the secrets behind the
murder and disappearance of scientists who unlocked one of
the most baffling health puzzles.

Our Friend Jimmie by James D. Sweat
Paperback: 250 pages Publisher: BookSurge Publishing
ISBN-10: 1419651951
James Sweat offers a refreshing perspective on crime drama in
his novel Our Friend Jimmie. With a full cast of colorful Jimmie
Collins does not have the luck of the Irish. His wife and child
are not in good health, but he takes good care of them and
figures he always will. He does have the gift of the gab and
with the help of his Mafia connections, Sal and Petey, he makes
the big score and buys the bar he has always dreamed of owning
in midtown Manhattan. Life is good. Far from being a saint,
Jimmie has amassed a small fortune fencing things that `fall off
the back of trucks'. Happens a lot in Manhattan. Life takes an
unexpected turn when he receives the news he has cancer and is
forced to prepare for the inevitable. To take care of his family
financially, Jimmie has to find someone to go overseas and bring
back his laundered fortune. He turns not to his friends but to a
bookie who assures him that he has "just the right guy for the
job." The money never comes though and it isn't until Jimmie is
dead that his friends realize something is amiss. Who took
Jimmie's money and why? Can Jimmie's friends find the culprit
and right this terrible wrong? You bet and when his buddies come
to the rescue, the adventure begins. Set during the tragic times
of September 11, 2001 and the fall of the World Trade Center's
twin towers, Our Friend Jimmie is a surprisingly rich and
atmospheric whodunit. Part mystery, part comedy, and part
action-adventure, the novel rises above its somber setting and
chronicles in sparkling style the lives of a diverse group who
frequent Jimmie Collins' bar, fall in and out of love, and come
together to help their good friend. Our Friend Jimmie is
sometimes hilarious, sometimes tragic as the hapless friends
rally their forces to do what any good friends would: Save the
day.

One Bomb Away
-
by
Maurine Doerken
-
-
- If you think the unthinkable diminished with the end of the
Cold War, think again. As this definitive book makes abundantly
clear, the threat of a nuclear holocaust has never been greater.
Fanatical, irrational regimes now possess nuclear weapons, with
more on the verge. The ability of terrorist organizations to
deliver a suitcase-size nuclear device any place of their choosing
is a growing concern.
- The proliferation of nuclear power plants raises exponentially
the threat of sabotage and accidents (to say nothing of how the
waste there from imperils the environment) The author of this
overview of the nuclear past, present and future unapologetically
seeks to raise the world's consciousness of the snowballing crisis
in order to energize a grassroots movement to rollback and eventually
eliminate the threat. ONE BOMB AWAY proscribes methods and means
for accomplishing this essential undertaking. Maurine Doerken's
proscriptions are founded on generating a critical mass of citizen
protest, the foundation which is a unique form of spiritual activism
needed to overcome a sense of individual helplessness. The last
chapter outlines the specific acts necessary to generate a groundswell
among the world's citizenry to do something for a change.
- Nothing less will persuade our elected leadership to abandon
the entrenched perception that nuclear weapons produce security.
If that impresses as an unattainable goal; first consider the
alternatives, and second, read the book that can be the catalyst
for ending once and for all the nuclear threat now looming over
us all.
-
- The author is imminently qualified to speak before organized
or ad hoc groups who share her concerns.

NYPD detective to spark romance in the steamy Caribbean. The
perfect book to take along on your next vacation, or just to
enjoy reading under a beach umbrella! Terry Hunter is determined
to overcome whatever obstacles life throws her way. After her
world is changed by a brutal shark attack while diving with a
research expedition off the California coast, Terry struggles
to rebuild her life in Cozumel, Mexico, where she becomes a successful
businesswoman, running her own dive operation. But the waters
turn dangerous for Terry once again, when she unwittingly uncovers
a drug smuggling scheme and becomes entwined in an international
investigation, risking her life to help a New York detective
solve a baffling case. Reading Dangerous Waters is almost
as good as scuba diving. The book delivers adventure, suspense,
thrills and romance, along with plenty of underwater action.
The main characters, Terry Hunter and Joe Manetta, are appealing
and attractive; totally modern yet with a touch of old fashioned
values. This is an excellent novel for both divers and non-divers.
