Anthony English
Anthony
English, born in Canada, became a
naturalized citizen
of the United States of America on November
22nd, 1963, having been sworn in at the Los
Angeles County Courthouse at almost the
precise time that President John F. Kennedy
was assassinated. This terrible and
cataclysmic event was to influence forever
his interest in his new country and his
passion as a new citizen.
This
pivotal event drove his interest in his new
country resulting in his consistently voting
in every election since being sworn in as a
citizen. While he voted, he was astonished
that so few of the qualified voters bothered
to go to the polls, and so many incompetents
have been elected. As a result he has
published this book in an effort to
encourage everyone to exercise their earned
privilege and their right as a US citizen to
cast a ballot for our governing officials.
You can make a difference is his theme.

PageOneLit.com: Where did you grow up and was reading and writing a part
of your life? Who were your earliest influences and why?
Anthony English: Grew up and was educated in Toronto
Canada. Reading was a big part of my life as in those days there was no
TV or similar distractions and the weather often kept us inside and
reading was our entertainment. Mother was the greatest influence and
encouraged reading and studying.
PageOneLit.com: Why do you write?
Anthony English: To try to make a difference.
PageOneLit.com: How did your new book "How to Vote With Purpose, Passion
& Power: A Voters Primer" come about? What was your motivation to write
this book? How passionate are you about voting in America? When in your
life did you become interested in politics? What election was the first
you remember voting and who did you vote for and why?
Anthony English: I became interested in politics when
I was sworn in as a US citizen at almost exactly the same time that John
F. Kennedy was assassinated and I have voted in every election since. I
voted Republican in my first election as I came early on to recognize
that excessive government was counter to good government. I am very, very
passionate about voting and am so disappointed that so few eligible
voters, vote and so many of those that do vote have no idea who or what
they are voting for. Thus I was motivated to write this book.
PageOneLit.com: In "How to Vote With Purpose, Passion & Power: A Voters
Primer" you raise they question "are voters stupid, gullible or they
just don't care?" Explain.
Anthony English: One only has to look at the inept,
criminal, ineffective, fraudulent and self indulgent elected officials
we have put into office to wonder about the capability of some of the
voters. My book is an attempt to inspire voters to learn more about the
candidates and the issues before giving them their vote.
PageOneLit.com: "How to Vote With Purpose, Passion & Power: A Voters
Primer" is very educational and a wonderful resource -- For example,
what is the 'Electoral College"?
Anthony English: The Electoral College is the final
formality of electing the president. It was established by our framers
when communications were quite limited. Basically, when you vote you are
really voting to instruct the electors from your state to cast their
votes for the same candidate. Currently there are 538 Electoral College
Voters and to be elected the candidate needs to acquire 270 of these
votes. Our founders adopted this idea from the Holy Roman Empire system
of the era 962-1806 of using princes from the various German states
authorized to vote for the election of the German King. The term
"College" comes from the Latin "Collegium" referring to a body of people
acting as one.
PageoneLit.com: Did you have to research for "How to
Vote With Purpose, Passion & Power: A Voters Primer" and if so who and
what did you do?
Anthony English: I researched the politicians who
have violated the trust of the voters and studied how they have
established a "Good Old Boys (and Girls) Club in our Congress and Senate
and then proceed to ignore the will of the voters who put them in to
office. I used the internet and other published information to collect
my data.
PageOneLit.com: What in your career or experiences help write "How to
Vote With Purpose, Passion & Power: A Voters Primer"?
Anthony English: A lifetime of disappointment in our
elected officials.
PageOneLit.com: What did you learn from writing "How to Vote With
Purpose, Passion & Power: A Voters Primer"?
Anthony English: Our voting skills are much worse
than I imagined.
PageOneLit.com: What do you hope to achieve with "How to Vote With
Purpose, Passion & Power: A Voters Primer"?
Anthony English: I hope to influence, especially the
young voter, on the importance to our great country on casting an
intelligent vote.
PageOneLit.com: Do you feel this next election is the most or one of the
most important elections in history? Why or why not? Explain.
Anthony English: All elections are important. This
one has special significance because of the Supreme court situation, the
violent situation fomented by the terrorists and the economic pressure
on America caused by terrorists, the war and the excessive government
spending and waste.
PageOneLit.com: What's next?
Anthony English: I plan to do some more writing.
PageOneLit.com: What was the last book you read?
Anthony English: Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand.
PageOneLit.com: Do you have any hobbies? What are they? How do they
enhance your writing?
Anthony English: Amatuer Radio (Ham), Golf, Restoring
antique cars, fishing, bridge and making wine. These give me a broad
exposure to many different types of people and therefore a divergent set
of ideas and values.
