Jane Doherty
When Jane Doherty consciously acknowledged her
psychic ability, she never intended to be a professional psychic.
However, Jane was forced to accept her new profession after demonstrations
of her psychic talents led to many requests for readings as well
as her other paranormal abilities. Jane
joyfully shares her gifts
and gratefully acknowledges God for the divine inspiration to
guide, advise and to teach others how to create a better future
with the right use of their free will as well as the ways of
spirit. Jane has been featured in most New Jersey newspapers,
as well as the New York Times, Philadelphia Inquirer, and Woman's
World Magazine. Jane has appeared on the Weekend Edition of the
TODAY SHOW, several episodes of Sightings, NBC House Party as
well as New Jersey's Talking on NEWS12. Currently, Jane is a
radio personality on two bi-weekly psychic call-in shows on WCTC
1450AM and WJHR 1040AM.

PageOneLit.com: How old were you when you
had your first paranormal experience and how did you come to
realize the experience was paranormal?
Jane Doherty: My earliest experience occurred
when I was four years old during an asthma-like breathing attack.
In the midst of that struggle my mother's voice faded in the
background to a barely audible mumble when I became dizzy and
started to lose consciousness. In eerie silence I heard a voice
speak within that assured me that I would not die if I followed
the specific instructions of this inner voice. I wouldn't have
known what the word psychic or paranormal meant at four, but
I probably would have realized the episode was different. Most
of my early experiences were accepted as just as just a normal
part of my mind, until I began to explore the unknown in my mid-thirties.
It was only then could I differentiate between a paranormal event
and the normal functioning of the mind. The one event I clearly
recognized as paranormal happened while attending a Wayne Newton
concert. I saw a detailed vision of an Indian woman on a blank
movie screen that no one else witnessed.
PageOneLit.com: Who and/or what have been
your biggest influences and what?
Jane Doherty: My biggest influences have
been the ability to not shut off my "feelings" despite
my
surroundings
and rules during my upbringing. As a child I knew I was different,
but not because I thought I had psychic ability. What differentiated
me from other children was my extreme sensitivity, openness towards
others, and an awareness of a type of love we were to have towards
others. These early "feelings" and higher "awareness"
helped me to define my life experiences not by other peoples'
reactions to what I experienced but rather by my own feelings
and perception. Recognizing at an early age the importance of
discovering my uniqueness facilitated the development of my psychic
gift later in life.
My mom instilled in me a strong faith and belief
in a higher power, which helped me to overcome any of my fears
while exploring the unknown. Her strong faith in God, her vision
of Jesus, and my own mystical experiences, especially the miracle
healing I witnessed at a holy shrine, all gave me the strength
and resolve to trust in my feelings and perceptions, despite
their unusualness.
Psychics were a huge influence on me. If it weren't
for psychics, I would never have searched for my destiny or sought
the secrets of the unknown. Anna, who became my psychic mentor,
impacted my life the most. She didn't teach me to be psychic.
Instead, Anna defined my experiences by her own subjective understanding
of what she knew but also allowed me to find my own way. Eventually,
I taught myself how to be psychic.
PageOneLit.com: What led you to transition
from being an English teacher to being a psychic?
Jane Doherty: I left teaching to have a
family, but I intended to go back once my children were of school
age. During those days as a mother and housewife, I sought a
reading at a local psychic fair simply out of curiosity. Shocked
by my supposed future, I initially concluded the predictions
were nonsense but that decision didn't quell my curiosity. Instead,
it set me on a quest to discover whether psychic predictions
were true or whether we really did have a "so-called"
destiny to fulfill. Determined to uncover the truth, I concluded
the only way to prove or disprove the prediction was to attempt
to develop my own psychic ability. That's how I became psychic
and never returned to a teaching career.
PageOneLit.com: Once you developed your
psychic abilities how did your life change?
Jane Doherty: My family and peers strongly
reacted because I had "changed". I had to reconcile
my religious beliefs with my new spiritual view of life and tried
to erase most peoples' stereotypical opinion of what psychics
can and can not do. On the other hand I developed more confidence
and discovered how being "sensitive" can also increase
your "sensuality". I let go of my fear of death,
learned some
of the mysteries of life, developed a greater sense of inner
peace, and began to recognize paranormal experiences as a sign
of God in everyday life. With each vision or paranormal experience
I felt more connected to life and began to believe there was
a greater purpose for life.
PageOneLit.com: You have traveled all over
the world to investigate paranormal phenomena. Tell us about
some of these travels and what you have found. What is your most
memorable trip?
Jane Doherty: I had the honor of being part
of the first ceremony to open the energy vortexes at the Mayan
ruins. I lead a ceremonial dance on the temple of the Jaguar
drawing from past life memories to guide me on how to do it.
Mexico expanded my sense of self as I experienced spirit after
spirit at these sacred sites. I have investigated Alcatraz and
the Palace hotel in San Francisco, Ca, Mount Konaki and a museum
in Clear Lake, Ca., as well as, Mount Shasta and the William
Heath Davis House in San Diego. My investigations have taken
me to a private house in North Carolina with the Jenny Jones
Show, a restaurant in New York City, a haunted go-go bar, a haunted
B&B in Cape May, the Lizzie Borden House in Fall River, and
many New Jersey historic houses, such as the Proprietary House,
Metlar House, WaterLoo Village, the Spy House and several other
places.
The most memorable have been the Palace Hotel,
the Sea Holly Inn and the Lizzie Borden House. At the Lizzie
Borden house I released the spirit of Abby Borden, recorded an
evp voice of Lizzie, and solved the murder mystery through spirit
communication. The Sea Holly Inn in Cape May earns the reputation
of being the one investigation that frightened me because a spirit
got in bed with me. The Palace Hotel I will never forget because
the spirits of two famous people communicated with me there:
George Burns and President Harding.
PageOneLit.com: We read in a "Women's
World" article about you that your stomach "pops"
when you sense spirit activity. What is this like and has it
always occurred with you?
Jane Doherty: It feels like a contraction
when a woman is in labor, but it doesn't ever release me until
the spirit leaves. Instead, the stomach expands as if I was nine
months pregnant. Often I can tell by the grip whether it is a
female, male or child spirit. This has happened to me since 1990,
when I investigated a house with a researcher.
PageOneLit.com: Congratulations on your
debut book, "Awakening the Mystic Gift: The Surprising Truth
About What It Means to Be Psychic." What inspired you to
write this?
Jane Doherty: I wrote this book to share
my experiences and the nuggets of truths I discovered exploring
the unknown in order to inspire others to believe they can do
what I do. In fact, I wanted to provide a vehicle that could
allow every individual to gain a greater heightened awareness
of their own ability that could also trigger experiences as they
actually read the book. I wanted to give a fresh new perspective
to the gift-an inside look into the psychic development process
and why the ability exists so that others could find their own
truth and have a more meaningful life.
PageOneLit.com: What was the greatest challenge
in writing "Awakening the Mystic Gift?"
Jane Doherty: Just like any other book it
is a challenge for any author to produce the volume of
information
necessary to create a book. Editing and writing over and over
again to make it clear and concise presented a challenge, because
I wanted it to be "perfect" before a professional did
the final editing. Perhaps, the greatest obstacle for me was
to tell my story in a style of writing that would make the readers
experience it, rather than to just read it as a story.
PageOneLit.com: In your book you talk about
having an "out-of-body experience"? What causes this
and what is it like?
Jane Doherty: Most out-of-body experiences
occur naturally often while we are in some form of an altered
state of consciousness when we are asleep, in meditation or in
some other form of relaxation or deep trance state. When you
have a very vivid dream of visiting a place or talking to a deceased
loved-one and it feels like you experienced what you dreamed,
you may actually have had a natural out-of body experience. Sometimes,
rapid weight loss can produce this state, as well as, the ability
to go into deep trance states. For me, it was during a hypnotic
regression for a past life that I entered into a deep altered-state
of consciousness, left my body and traveled to the other side.
During that experience, I first sensed and then saw energy leave
my body until I no longer had an awareness of my body, but saw
it from a higher vantage point.
PageOneLit.com: When writing "Awakening
the Mystic Gift," were you a daily disciplined writer? Did
you have certain tricks you used so that you didn't stray from
your writing?
Jane Doherty: Yes, I was a daily disciplined
writer, but I preferred to write in the evenings where there
were fewer sources of energy to infiltrate my sensitivity and
distract me. I wrote it all in long hand before I typed it. Somehow,
the motion of writing produced more of a creative flow in me
than trying to compose it first on the computer. The one trick
I used to keep me from straying from my writing was to often
change my position and place of writing in order to fool my senses
into thinking I had just begun the task.
PageOneLit.com: How did you choose your
title, "Awakening the Mystic Gift" and what does it
mean to you?
Jane Doherty: My working title was, "Seeing
Through the Mystic Mind" before I refined the title. I chose
the word mystic because it means you have more than the ability
to see into the future. It suggests that you have greater wisdom
and an understanding of life, too. I changed the word "mind"
to "gift", because I believe the ability is a gift
God gave to everyone, but some people are just not yet aware
of it. The book doesn't just describe the ability or give information.
It awakens the reader and makes them reflect upon their own thoughts,
feelings, and experiences and that is why I chose the word awakening.
PageOneLit.com: What do you hope to achieve
with your book?
Jane Doherty: I hope this book will allow
people to find their own truth by turning inward and
become more
aware of their own uniqueness. I hope the book will trigger paranormal
experiences in them, not just to be psychic, but for them to
gain a greater understanding of life and for them to achieve
a more personal connection to God. After reading the book I believe
they will feel a certain sense of awareness, hope, love and togetherness
and then I hope they will spread that word to others. We all
have a purpose, but we must become more aware so we can discover
our own unique part of it. I would like to quote words from the
song, "Janesong" inspired by the book and written,
produced and sung by Simon Lake and include it as part of my
message, "The Light without comes from within."
PageOneLit.com: What has been the reader
reaction to "Awakening the Mystic Gift?"
Jane Doherty: So far, people have told me
that the book triggered paranormal experiences in them, especially
precognitive dreams. Almost all that have commented told me that
it has changed their life in one way or another. Most people
have simply commented, "I couldn't put the book down!"
It has been gratifying for people to send me notes to thank me
for writing the book, because it deeply moved them or changed
their life.
These two reader reviews on BN.com and Amazon.com
are good examples of the typical comments.
"A Book Written For the Lay Person!"
"This is the first book that I have read
on psychic development and I thought it was excellent. It's really
interesting to read about Jane's life and how she developed her
gift, and it's encouraging to know that 'regular' people can
do it with a little patience and practice. I would recommend
this book to beginners who are interested in "dipping a
toe in the water' of psychic development. I would also recommend
it to people who are already familiar with their own abilities
for support and encouragement in growing and expanding their
gift."
"I could not put the book down! I was so
moved by Jane's book I went out and bought a copy for my mother!
When I finished the book, I was looking for more! This book has
taught me to listen to my inner most feelings and insights and
not to go against them which, in turn has helped me succeed in
work and play.
PageOneLit.com: Are there any new projects
that you are working on? Will there be another book?
Jane Doherty: I am about to sign a contract
for a new paranormal television series debuting in
October on
a major network channel. I am also working on a paranormal dvd
series with an independent producer that is not yet sold. I plan
a sequel to this book and several others. There is also a song
that was inspired by the book called, "Janesong" by
a band called Simon Lake. I am actively helping the Simon Lake
Band acquire a record contract.
PageOneLit.com: What is your advice to someone
trying to uncover his or her psychic abilities?
Jane Doherty: I don't believe doing just
one or two exercises will make you psychic. Instead, it is a
process of emotional, mental and spiritual change. The two most
important words to remember are self-trust and patience. The
five key skills to master are relaxation, awareness, observation,
concentration, sensitivity, and interpretation. Two quick tips
to follow are: Expose your senses to a variety of stimuli and
practice making quick decisions.
PageOneLit.com: If you had a choice in life,
would you choose to have paranormal abilities? Why or why not?
Jane Doherty: I would certainly choose to
have them all over again. Having the ability has given me inner
peace, greater understanding of life and a better understanding
of destiny, as well as God.
PageOneLit.com: When you're not working,
what are your favorite ways to relax?
Jane Doherty: I relax by listening to music,
reading a book, visiting a beach to feel the cool ocean breeze
refresh my energy. I like walking in nature to relax, watching
a beautiful sunrise or sunset, or traveling to interesting areas
in the United States.
PageOneLit.com: Do you have any final thoughts
to share with us?
Jane Doherty: I really appreciate the time
that you've taken to interview me. It has allowed me to express
what my book is about, as well as, what I hope to achieve by
writing it. I have enjoyed your questions and how they stimulated
my mind. I hope that people will read the book, become more aware,
experience the paranormal and allow the book to change their
life for the better.
