Kathleen Pickering

Kathleen Pickering is an award winning author of romance and women’s fiction whose goal as a writer is to inspire readers in every aspect of their lives. She is a member of Romance Writers of America and Mystery Writers of America. She has held every Board position for Florida Romance Writer’s South Florida Chapter, except Treasurer—she knows her limits! Kathleen contributes her time assisting author colleagues with their conferences and workshops.

 

Kathleen's first novel, ECHOES OF LOVE, a paranormal romance achieved finalist awards from affiliates of the Romance Writers of America such as the Holt Medallion, and the Booksellers Best Awards. Affaire de Coeur Magazine awarded the work 5 stars, and Romantic Times Magazine awarded 4 stars to the novel. Her unpublished manuscript, WHITE WITCH OF THE COLOR ROOM, received first place for women’s fiction in Outreach International Romance Writers’ Award of Excellence Contest. Her  latest novel, FLIRTING WITH FINANCE, is self-published and co-written with financial advisor, Gwendolyn Beck. PAGEONELIT.COM:  Where did you grow up and was reading and writing a part of your life? Who were your earliest influences and why?

Kathleen Pickering:I grew up on Long Island, NY--born in Amityville, grew up in Massapequa. I started keeping diaries in third grade, always felt that writing was a great release. 

My first books were Nancy Drew mysteries. At 14, I started reading my Mom's Taylor Caldwell books and found Mary Stuart's Merlin series. I became hooked on romance, paranormal possibilities and history. I read, and do read, all the time. (Usually three books going at once.)

PAGEONELIT.COM:  Why do you write? 

Kathleen Pickering: I feel moved to write. I get a glimpse of a character, an idea, or visit a place, and I'm gone. The story takes hold and I want to tell it.

PAGEONELIT.COM:  Briefly discuss your new book MYTHOLOGICAL SAM (The Call).

Kathleen Pickering: Myth Sam is the result of an unusual experience I had in my early 20's. I could never explain it comfortably . . . and raised a few eyebrows when I tried. So, I let the experience percolate for years, and the Mythological Sam series is the results.

PAGEONELIT.COM:  Who is Sam Wilson?

Sam Wilson is each and every one of us.

PAGEONELIT.COM:  In your opinion what is Sam going thru and reactions as he learns about his quest ?

Kathleen Pickering: By helping his unusual gaurdian angel, Sam is embarking on a quest of self-discovery and power and is surprised and dis-believing every step of the way.

PAGEONELIT.COM:  MYTHOLOGICAL SAM (The Call) is filled with humor, action, danger, and even romance. If you had to pick a genre for MYTHOLOGICAL SAM (The Call), what would it be and why?

Genre: Urban Fantasy. Why? Because the theme entails demons, angels and a guy/girl call to adventure to save mankind in modern times.

PAGEONELIT.COM:  MYTHOLOGICAL SAM (The Call) would make a great film. If Hollywood called who would you cast and why?

Kathleen Pickering:ME!! No, kidding, aside. I can see lots of wonderful actors in this film because it calls for strong personalities. I would choose:

New actor, Joshua Schubart, as Rufus 
Taylor Swift as Alyx
Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Sam (I originally chose Michael Cera.)
Emma Stone as Rosemary
Bradley Cooper as Franklin
Haven't figure who could be Lucifer . . . Jonny Depp?

PAGEONELIT.COM:  What do you hope to achieve with ?

Honestly, I hope to wake up lots of folks to consider the prospect of thinking with their Soul instead of Ego.

PAGEONELIT.COM: What was the last book you read?

Kathleen Pickering:Heather Graham's, Phantom Evil. 

PAGEONELIT.COM:  What's next? 

Kathleen Pickering: Actually, I'm busy! Just like I read more than one book, I'm writing more than one.
1. I'm waist-deep into the second Mythological Sam book, "The Shift."
2. Just sold a romance to Harlequin, "Where It Began" which will be released in January.
3. I'm writing a modern time-travel romance about my home town. I'll keep you posted on progress.
