Lindy Anne Nisbet

Born in Sydney, Australia, Lindy Anne Nisbet spent 22 years as a professional actress traveling around the United States with repertory theatre and on tour with musicals. She has done time Off Broadway, got paid big bucks for bad television, hawked products in commercials that she would never use and finally did good film work in unreleased movies.

During one of the many dry spells in her acting career, the Harmonic Convergence converged with a significant birthday and she woke up. One strange and powerful thing happened after another, leaving her no choice but to ride a cosmic roller coaster. Lindy has cast astrological charts and read tarot across the country, obtained a Holistic Health Practitioner's license to handle energy legally and has a small business painting unique and individual mandalas for unique and individual people.

Lindy Anne Nisbet is committed to use humor and zaniness to convey themes of unity, sacredness, self-mastery, global-connectedness and the power of simple kindness in all creative mediums.

"Outrageous Detour is a sexy, comic spiritual romp: a spiritual quest both funny and entertaining as well as enlightening." Hoyt Hilsman, writer and critic, VARIETY

"A raucous tour-de-farce through spiritual awakening and sexual enlightenment on a tourist trip through ancient ruins." Jeff Schwaner, Editor-in-Chief, Booksurge.com

"Outrageous Detour is clever, witty, delightful, precocious!" Carol B. Knight, author of Passing the Torch

Pageonelit.com: Where did you grow up and was reading and writing a part of your life? Who were your earliest influences and why?

Lindy Anne Nisbet: My first nine years were spent in Sydney, Australia, where I was born. We had a terraced backyard and I spent a lot of time singing and dancing. I learned to read very early and it was an established tradition that I draw my Mother’s birthday card and write a poem. So, my earliest influences would be fairy tales, fantasy, magic and humor the ‘Mary Poppins’ series and all the Dr. Suess books.

When we moved to upper-state New York when I was nine, I was immersed in the theatre and starred in a lot of original musicals based on fairy tales. How lucky was I?? That is where I started to appreciate ‘words'. I sang words, I spoke words, and I changed words right there on the spot that did not work for me. (Early rewrites!)

As time went on, I focused on the liberal arts- music, literature, art, and the theater. I read and acted all the greats, Shakespeare, Chekov, Ibsen, Pinter, Williams and all the flawed yet beloveds, Simon, Ackborn and lots of musicals, old and new. Through all this I had a penchant for comedy. I was known and hired for finding the humor in text. I guess I was really amusing myself and entertaining others was just an offshoot!

Pageonelit.com: Why do you write?

Lindy Anne Nisbet: Writing is self-ish!!! When I write I entertain others and myself, I spread enlightenment through humor, I understand others and myself and I stay in touch with the true meaning of life and my God-centered self. Writing is like a form of meditation for me.

Pageonelit.com: Tell us about Outrageous Detour- What are psychic ‘pops’ and spiritual sojourns? Why should someone read this book?

Lindy Anne Nisbet: OUTRAGEOUS DETOUR is a tour-de-farce. It is an entertaining novel that packs a sly, tongue-in-cheek look at the all-too-serious subject of metaphysics: the Godside of life that is just as humorous as this so called reality of life we see.

Psychic ‘pops’ are sudden inner knowings or the big ‘ah ha’ we all experience if we finally move out of the chatter of our minds. In OD spiritual sojourns are like mob vision quests or spiritual journeys undertaken with others. They are sometimes purposeful, yet mostimes unexpected.

Pageonelit.com: Why should someone read this book?

Lindy Anne Nisbet: People should read OUTRAGEOUS DETOUR for fast paced entertainment, unexpected enlightenment, to laugh out loud, as a distraction from negative worldly events, to stay in a giddy, light vibration, to fall in love with reading!!!

I think most everyone can identify with the ‘outrageous detours’ that take place in life. We all have experienced the sinking feeling of being suddenly tugged away from our goals onto another path for various reasons. Most of us do not go willingly. My novel, OUTRAGEOUS DETOUR, explores this theme, and many others, because there are never any accidents. Everything in life is timed to perfection.

Pageonelit.com: Tell us about your character Lulu.

Lindy Anne Nisbet: Lulu is me, at times. I did have an adventure in Peru. It did change me as it changes her. The character of Lulu is a platform for my own thoughts to take shape on the page but she is a fictional character just based loosely on myself and my life. The difference is the space for my imagination to take flight. This is why I like fiction- the unfathomable is reasonable when viewed in black and white on a page!

Pageonelit.com: It seems you are combining deep themes such as awareness with humor-is this the case?

Lindy Anne Nisbet: Is it ever! I am really following a long line of artists, in all mediums, who use humor to make people think about deep issues. My own sense of humor has helped me through some dark areas of my life and even illuminated those areas for me. I believe I unconsciously developed it to do just that. Humor is the key to success and longevity in all areas of life.

Pageonelit.com: What has been your feedback from readers? What do they say to you about their interpretation of your book?

Lindy Anne Nisbet: Most people have told me or written to me (through my website-www.amusinglight.com) that they cannot put the book down. One man is hunting through the book for underlying messages. He feels it is ‘deeper than it seems.’ OUTRAGEOUS DETOUR seems to appeal to people in their 20s-80s! One woman said she was reading very slowly because she did not want the book to end. A new mother told me that the book was funny and inspiring and that it helped her stay positive during the difficult last month of her pregnancy.

I have had some interesting feedback about the sex in the book- ranging from “Did that really happen?” to “I did not realize that a higher sexual expression could accelerate my spiritual path!”

Pageonelit.com: Who are your favorite writers and why?

Lindy Anne Nisbet: I appreciate warmth, a good story and laugh-out-loud humor if I can get it! Tom Robbins always delivers!! I love his off-center look at the world. I love Fannie Flagg and Billie Letts because both draw me in with heartfelt characters that make me laugh and cry at the same time.

Pageonelit.com: What’s next?

Lindy Anne Nisbet: I have two more books in this series. I am writing the second as we E-muse and E-speak.

Pageonelit.com: What was the last book you read?

Lindy Anne Nisbet: Lady Chatterley’s Lover’ by D.H.Lawrence and ‘Full House’ by Janet Evonovich. I switch hit!

Pageonelit.com: Do you have any hobbies? What are they? How do they enhance your writing?

Lindy Anne Nisbet: I create personal mandalas, spiritual paintings, for others using their astrological information, visions, dreams, shapes, colors and my personal meditations on them. This is a tremendous leap into my right brain and I often break writer’s block while painting. I have learned to keep a small tape recorder in my art studio.

I also hike, bike and do contemplative walking (which sometimes takes hours!) All these things help me formulate ideas but I must say my massage work is the best. Stuff just streams through me unhindered.

My BIGGEST hobby is people watching. I love catching quirky behavior, always have, and for that reason my life is always full of it. Like attracts like!
