Paul Bezaire

Paul Bezaire, a.k.a. The Rebel, has spent many years rebelling against established unfair situations. His book "How I Sued PayPal and Won,” also available through Rebel101.com, Trafford Publishing or Amazon.com, shows how a person can sue PayPal or eBay in small claims court even without an attorney. Other books by Bezaire include "The Man Who Sued God," "The Cybernetic Golfer” "The Cybernetic Bowler" "Pay No More Parking Tickets” and Pay No More Speeding Tickets.”

In "The Rebel," the author cites many examples of how he has rebelled against the system while staying within the framework of the law. He tells how he forced the Association of Engineering Geologists to change its Code of Ethics. When a new runway was completed at the Los Angeles International airport, he forced the FAA to close the runway until they realigned the final approach zone away from his home. And when the city of Rosemead stopped picking up residents' garbage for nonpayment of rubbish fees, he forced the city to change its policy so no garbage was left uncollected.

"Rebel against the system before it overwhelms you," Bezaire says. "But always stay within the framework of the law.”

Using this advice, Bezaire was able to convince his fourteen-year old grandson to successfully rebel against a store owner. The teenager planned to throw a brick through the owner's store window because the store would not honor a money-back guarantee, but Bezaire explained it would be faster to stay within the framework of the law and simply picket the store. Following this suggestion, the store owner gave his money back in less than five minutes.

The book also details Bezaire's most recent act of rebellion -- offering a $10,000 reward to the first person who can prove he had a trial de novo as stated by the judge in Case # SM04C01472, Superior Court of Los Angeles County, and affirmed by the California Supreme Court. A full certified transcript of the case is included in the book, as well as at http://www.rebel101.com/Chapter11.htm

This entertaining, hilarious, and educational book is available through Trafford Publishing.com, Amazon.com or the electronic version at http://www.rebel101.com

PageOneLit.com: I notice that many of the items on your site are free while others are priced very low.  Will you please explain why?

PAUL: My free items are to be shared by everyone. In case someone cannot afford to pay for them all, I have decided to make them free for everyone. The Cancer document was written by a young woman who asked if I would help her distribute it. The smoking document was written by me. It works and costs me nothing to distribute it free. The Concerning Dissent item is no longer available except via my website and as a free PDF file. The other books are priced well below the hard copy version but still contains every bit of the same information. Each document can be read on line or printed for later reading. They all go toward maintaining this site.

PageOneLit.com: Where did you grow up and was reading and writing a part of your life?  Who were your earliest influences and why?

PAUL: I grew up in Monterey Park, California. I was really never too interested in writing until much later in life when I wrote my first book called Bowl With Your Head. I had developed a theory in high school concerning the way humans operate. Applying that theory to myself I ended shooting two 300 games, one 805 series and many 700 or better series.  I later taught golfers the same theory while helping them to improve their game. I called the book The Cybernetic Golfer.

PageOneLit.com: Why do you write?

PAUL: I write for two reasons. (1) To express my hostility against authority, and (2) I have always enjoyed teaching and this is one way to teach.

PageOneLit.com: Who and/or what have been your biggest influences with regard to your writing and why?

PAUL: I prefer technical books. I have not read many books except The REBEL by Albert Camus and Concerning Dissent and Civil Disobedience by Abe, Fortus.

PageOneLit.com: What is your definition of a "Rebel" and why? In your opinion what makes some people a 'Rebel" and others not?

PAUL: A rebel is a person who one day grabs the master's whip and turns on the master. He says, 'Up to this point I will obey but you have gone too far A rebel is someone who has had enough of the masters nonsense.

PageOneLit.com: In "The Rebel" you say you became a 'rebel' at age 12 - Please explain.

PAUL: I attended catholic school that was a good breeding ground for rebels. I will soon be writing about my experiences growing up catholic and how the concept of sin is creating the greatest crop of neurotics the country has ever seen.

PageOneLit.com: At a young age you discuss in "The Rebel" going into a business you knew nothing about - Please discuss and explain?

PAUL: I bought an old garbage truck and went into the business of collecting garbage.  I soon got out of the business when I was being charged more to dump my load than anybody else. I was not a part of “The Click.”

PageOneLit.com:  In "The Rebel" you discuss/talk bout how your 'garbage was different from everyone else' - Please explain.

PAUL:  When the large garbage trucks broke down the driveways in my mobile home park I quit paying my collection fees. But other properties were having their garbage picked even without the payment of their rubbish fees, I went to the city council and asked “How come?"

When they told me their garbage was different I brought in a fifty-gallon container of
garbage to the council meeting and asked them to smell it and tell me how it differs from anybody else’s.

PageOneLit.com: How I Sued PayPal and Won" is an interesting concept for a book -- What was the problem you had with Paypal?  How did you win? What is your perspective of Paypal as a company?

PAUL: After buying something on eBay I paid through PayPal. When PayPal would not honor their satisfaction guarantee and reimburse me for my loss, I sued them in small claims court. My opinion of PayPal as a company is that they are unethical and are taking advantage of their customers by depriving them of the use of their money.

PageOneLit.com:  How does PayPal make money with our money? Please explain.

PAUL: In my book How I Sued PayPal and Won, I cite and article by Bernd Schneider  who tells how PayPal makes money with your money. They restrict your account and immediately begin making money on YOUR money.

PageOneLit.com: Talk about your website www.Rebel101.com and some of the feedback you get from others.

PAUL:  I receive many letters of thanks from people who I have helped for free, how to avoid having to pay parking or speeding tickets. I especially enjoy helping people to get their money back from PayPal.

PageOneLit.com: "Fight Your Speeding Ticket" is another rebellious concept book that is interesting and original --- Why do you feel most people don't fight speeding tickets in court? Without an emergency, can a police officer break the speed limit?

PAUL:  Most people cannot afford to take the time from work to fight a speeding ticket.  As a source of revenue ($110 million dollars a year in Los Angeles) the cities have made it extremely difficult for someone to fight their ticket.  As far as a police officer obeying the traffic laws, I find that they need to obey them unless they have their red light and
siren on.

PageOneLit.com: What was the last book you read?

PAUL:  The last book I read was Concerning Dissent and Civil Disobedience by former Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court, Abe Fortas.

PageOneLit.com: Do you have any hobbies? What are they? How do they enhance your writing?

PAUL:  My hobby is performing sleight of hand for mostly young kids around the age of say 5 to 14.
