PageOneLit.com: Where did you grow up and was reading and
writing a part of your life? Who were your earliest influences
and why?
Sharón: I was born in Iowa but reared in San
Diego, California. I read a book a week for years, mostly
biographies. My thoughts were that if I learned about the
choices that others made I would make wiser choices for myself.
However, I was a math major in college, because it was the only
subject where you didn't have to write papers. My earliest
influences were Dr. Eugene Whitworth, author of "Nine Faces of
Christ", as he can write compelling stories that educate and
cause one to think at the same time and my parents. Taylor
Caldwell, Ruth Montgomery and James Clavell were also frequently
read. Joseph John Dewey, author of "The Immortal" series is
currently my major influence as he causes one to reconsider
long-held beliefs in a non-threatening way. It is not important
whether I agree with the author, or not, as I am challenged to
think.
PageOneLit.com: Why did you write "Know the Name Know the
Person - Letters Reveal Secrets Hidden in Names"? Talk a little
about your background in the field of Neimology.
Sharón: Math majors are good at figuring out patterns and
sequences. My subconscious picked up the patterns in names which
became apparent to me while making the seating chart at the
beginning of my seventh year of teaching. I was making
assumptions about the children based on their names and I hadn't
met the children yet. So, I wrote what I my mind was saying and
put the information away for later retrieval. I wanted to get to
know the children without influence from their names. Then, at
Winter break, I read what had been written at the start of the
year. I was amazed and decided to bring into consciousness what
my unconscious had picked up. I started by asking what every
David I knew had in common, and then what their differences
were. The differences had to come from somewhere, so I surmised
it was in their last name as not everyone had a middle name.
That is how the science of neimology began, trial and error,
looking for patterns, and asking why a letter would change what
it represents, what the rules where. It took me fifteen years to
figure out the patterns represented by the placement of the
letters in a name and how they play with each other. I wrote
"Know the Name, Know the Person" to share these discoveries. To
my knowledge this is the only book of its kind. Other books
state what names mean, this one explains how to find out the
information for yourself.
PageOneLit.com: Describe the influences of our
names on our personalities - For example: The name Vicky. What
can you tell me about this name and why?
Sharón: Our names contain our personality's
predisposition to certain behaviors and characteristics. The
last name will influence how these characteristics are
displayed. Characteristics in the name Vicky are: V=sexual
charisma and charm, I=family is important and likes to give
advice, C=uses charm and charisma to cover up the need to be in
charge and/or control, K=natural leader, CK= fast wit, can
appear as able to think on one's feet, Y=need to be liked. So
Vicky is naturally charming, able to think on her feet, likes to
be in charge of herself, not under someone else's thumb, enjoys
leadership, and is amiable. That is the short version of what
this name represents.
PageOneLit.com: In "Know the Name Know the Person -
Letters Reveal Secrets Hidden in Names" you discuss your travels
to other countries to see if Neimology was as effective where
the people spoke other languages, but used our alphabetic
system-- Please explain.
Sharón: I traveled to other countries to test my theories
which had proven accurate in the United States. I wanted to know
if the theories held in languages that used our same letter
symbols but didn't speak English. So I traveled throughout
Europe, Mali, Kenya and Tanzania in Africa, Jordan and Israel in
the middle east, Peru, most of Central America, Iceland, Russia
and more. I spoke to everyone who would talk to me. In most
locations, people invited me into their homes to share with them
and their friends. I asked questions and analyzed names, names
that I had never heard previously. This way I had to rely on
neimology and not impressions of common names. People's
responses were amazing; and people's expressions would change as
they were being described. It was wonderful to watch people warm
up as they realized how well they were understood simply by
someone knowing their name.
PageOneLit.com: How long has the practice of Neimology
been around?
Sharón: I began developing Neimology in 1981, and slowly
putting the patterns together. I became serious about Neimology
in 1991 and started making it the focus of my attention versus a
hobby. I have been doing readings for people using Neimology
starting in 1992. In 1996, I started teaching classes on how to
do neimology, which eventually lead to the book.
.
PageOneLit.com: In Neimology, the first vowel in the
first name characterizes the main elements of how one thinks and
behaves -- Please explain.
Sharón: The first name represents who you are at your
core, and who you choose to become. Your middle name represents
intermittent behaviors. The birth last name represents the
beliefs that you learned as a child. The married last name
revels the challenges in the marriage and the 'matchability' of
the partners.
PageOneLit.com: In "Know the Name Know the Person -
Letters Reveal Secrets Hidden in Names" you even discuss how a
business name can translated - Please explain - take the
business name Microsoft and break it down.
Sharón: Names represent who we are, so business names
represent the qualities of the business. Microsoft means it
takes care of itself first so that it can then take care of
others (M). Microsoft loves to give advice, tell others what to
do and how to do it and considers itself a world influence as
all are family (I). Microsoft wants to be in charge of itself
(C) and knows how to take care of others (O) but doesn't want to
be told when to nurture (second O, R). Microsoft continues to
learn (S) and has a rebellious spirit (R) and strives for
accuracy (R). This company will hold onto a pattern or idea
longer than is sometimes necessary (FT) and wants to be the
first to do things (T).
PageOneLit.com: What do you hope readers walk away with after
reading "Know the Name Know the Person - Letters Reveal Secrets
Hidden in Names" ?
Sharón: Hopefully people will use the tools to have
clearer communication with each other. Also, individuals can
understand why s/he do what each does and have more compassion
for others because of their increased understanding of who a
person really is. This could help us appreciate each other more,
leading to more harmony.
PageOneLit.com: How has your life changed since
writing "Know the Name Know the Person - Letters Reveal Secrets
Hidden in Names" ?
Sharón: Other than the relief that I finally finished
this book, my life is the same.
PageOneLit.com: What's next?
Sharón: I am writing two books. One is how to use
neimology to compare two names to see compatibility and
challenges in the relationship. The other is about my spiritual
team, what I've learned from them and how others can connect
with their team.
PageOneLit.com: What was the last book you read?
Sharón: "The Red Tent" about the Biblical Jacob,
his wives and children.
PageOneLit.com: Do you have any hobbies? What are
they? How do they enhance your writing?
Sharón: I read spiritual books, do art projects and
travel. I love meeting people and sharing ideas. I am fascinated
to hear opinions that are well thought out and different than my
own as it encourages me to think. Thinking outside of the box
enhances my writing.
