Stephen Edwards

Stephen Edward's journey began in 1991 when he heard the unmistakable voice of God speaking to him. At first it was hard for Stephen to believe! “God doesn’t talk to ordinary people!”, he thought, but God made it very clear God was trying to communicate with him using everything from words to the amazing synchronicities that were occurring constantly all around him. Stephen opened his heart up to what God was trying to communicate and he began recording the conversation. In the midst of this conversation, Stephen would realize see with his Real Eyes God was allowing a song or commercial playing in the background to fit perfectly with what he had been writing.

Stephen’s desire is to show everyone that God is all around us continually initiating communication with us in our every day lives. His hope is that everyone realizes God is there and desires to commune with them in their own unique way. All you have to do is open your heart to God.

During the past twelve years Stephen has taught hundreds of thousands of students across the United States how to improve the quality of their lives mentally, emotionally, spiritually and financially. In addition to Communion-cating With God, Stephen is also the author of Heaven Can't Wait and a best-selling audio program Your Miracle Life, Life Transformation Beyond Belief which have helped create positive change for thousands of people around the world. PageOneLit.com:  Where did you grow up and was reading and writing a part of your life? Who were your earliest influences and why?

Stephen Edwards: I grew up in a small town in the northwest of England called Blackpool. Reading was not a part of my life until I was in my early twenties when I had to spend a lot of time confined and alone. My earliest influences were mostly from music, a type called Northern Soul, and dancing to that music. When I started reading I read Jean le Carre, Robert Ludlum, and Wilbur Smith. I found these books interesting and exciting.

It was not until I was in my early thirties that I started to get interested in self-development. Anthony Robbins was the biggest influence on me. I purchased his Personal Power tapes in 1991 and joined his organization as a trainer/speaker in November 1994. It was through working with Anthony that I was introduced to authors like Deepak Chopra, Wayne Dyer, Dan Millman, Louise Hay and many other spiritual teachers.

Because of the influence of these people I went on to earn my PhD in Spiritual Counseling.

PageOneLit.com: Your new book Communion-cating with God you discuss the"awakening of the soul" - What is your definition/interpretation of the'Soul"?

Stephen Edwards: The Soul is what some people call our higher self or spirit. We are more than our bodies. We are actually a three part being, mind, body and spirit. Most of us rely on our mind to guide us and make decisions. We use our physical bodies for taking action or doing things. When we connect with our soul, which is to connect with our spiritual nature, we find that we do not need to think things through, we have what many people call ‘an inner knowing’. This inner knowing is divine guidance. Our Soul is connected to the Oneness which flows through everything, the omnipresent or God. Our mind is driven by ego, which is fear based. Fear can be our counselor or it can be our jailer. It is wise to acknowledge the fear of the lightning when standing on a golf course and take cover. It is unnecessary to fear the thunder in the distance. When we rely on our mind/ego to run our life we are under constant stress, which is just another word for fear. When we connect with our soul and rely on our inner guidance or intuition we find that we have no need to think things through, we simply know what to do. Only by connecting to our soul and having faith in it’s guidance can we ever truly be free and happy.

We must get out of our mind and into our heart. Our heart is where our intuition can be felt. It is in our heart where true intelligence can be found. Love is the ultimate force. Love connects us to our heart and our heart connects us to our souls and the divine energy that flow through everything. There are many names for this divine energy. In the west most people refer to this higher power as God.

PageOneLit.com: In Communion-cating with God you say, "Not Everyone has a religion, but everyone is, has a spirit" - Explain.

Stephen Edwards: In the previous question I mentioned we are three part beings; Mind, Body, and Spirit. Our spirit is actually our soul. Even though we cannot see our soul we know it’s there. We cannot see infared or ultra-violet light, however we know it exists. You may not believe in God, you may not have a certain religion or faith in your life. Regardless of what you believe everyone has and is a spiritual being having a human experience. We are all connected back to that Higher Power, for we are an extension of that Higher Power. When we realize that we are an extension of God, and that everything in the Universe is an extension of God, then we fully realize we are all One. When we realize we are all one, then we can let go of religion, borders and boundaries. When we truly see this we realize what I do for you I do for me, and what I fail to do for you I fail to do for me.

So many of today’s religions teach that God is a God of wrath, punishment and discipline. They teach that we cannot approach God with out something in between. Do you see how beautiful it is to know that you truly are a part of God, that everyone without exception is an extension of God. God is Love, therefore you are an extension of love. What if we all realized we were Love? How different would this world be?

PageOneLit.com: Explain the fight between the Ego and Soul.

Stephen Edwards: The ego is the mind, the soul is your spirit. The ego’s desire is to sustain it’s individual identity. The ego is afraid of dying. In order to sustain it’s individual identity the ego believes it must control everything. The ego wants to keep the soul from running things because the ego believes it will lose power and control and therefore die. Buddha said that peace and happiness can only be achieved through the death of the ego. The ego wants to keep us focused on the physical, material world. The soul has no interest in the physical, material world. The soul is interested only in the development of our spiritual nature.

PageOneLit.com: Can one live without fear? How? How is Fear and Stress related? How does conflict serve a purpose?

Stephen Edwards: As mentioned earlier, fear can be our counselor or our jailer. In other words there are times when fear can be useful and there are times when fear holds us back from experiencing our true potential. Our challenge is to distinguish between the two. It has become difficult because for thousands of years fear has been used to control people and wield power over them by religions, governments, cultures, parents, spouses, siblings and even our own mind/ego. We live in a fear based society.

We experience stress when we are afraid something we believe will mean loss or harm to us is going to happen or has already happened. Fear can only exist in the past or future. When we bring ourselves back into the present, the now, fear disappears. Fear cannot sustain itself in the present moment that is why the present is called a gift.

The conflict between fear and faith is our challenge and our opportunity. Conflict creates the flux from which change is born. If we do not challenge our ideas and beliefs there would be no growth, and growth is necessary for our evolution. Everything is growing and expanding or it is withering and dying. This is the tension that allows for a reality that offers choice and variety. If everyone thought the same, and just accepted the status quo, if there were no new ideas that were in conflict with the current belief systems we could not evolve. Conflict does not mean violence or anger it simply means challenging something else that is different. That could be a belief, an idea, a certain way of doing things or a way of living.

Galileo said that the earth was not flat, and that it was not the center of the Universe. This caused tremendous conflict during that time. What do we know now…We know the earth is round, and that it’s not the center of the Universe. Tesla, Ghandi, Jesus, Martin Luther King and many others introduced new ways of thinking that were in conflict with the belief systems at that time. That conflict led to the evolution of consciousness in each case.

PageOneLit.com: How do you communicate with God?

Stephen Edwards: I simply talk to God. I have conversations in my mind. Sometimes God communicates with me through the radio or TV or the newspaper. I just walked past a newspaper stand in the airport and the front page of the newspaper read 23 days of learning. In the book I detail how 23 has become a significant spiritual number in my life. God was saying hello, and bringing me back to the present.

PageOneLit.com: What did you learn from writing Communion-cating with God? What do you hope to achieve with Communion-cating with God?

Stephen Edwards: I learned that God is with us all the time, God is omnipotent, omnipresent and God is communion-cating with us all, always, and in all-ways. God is everything, there is nothing, that reads no-thing, that is not God. There is only God. We are a part of God. Not apart from God, but a part of God. We are an individualized, localized field of energy that is inextricably connected to the larger field of energy that is God. That’s awesome to me! It puts God in a whole new “light.”

I hope that by reading Communion-cating with God people will open their hearts and minds to having their own communion-cation with God.

PageOneLit.com:   What's next?

Stephen Edwards: Next is continuing to bring this message to as many people as possible throughout the world. I have a vision of creating Miracles Resorts and centers throughout the world. I want people to have a place where they can go to reconnect with their inner “Light”. My intention is to write the sequel to Communion-cating with God once the book has developed momentum.

PageOneLit.com:  What was the last book you read?

Stephen Edwards:
The Biology of Belief by Bruce H. Lipton Ph.D. Fabulously interesting!

PageOneLit.com:   Do you have any hobbies? What are they? How do theyenhance your writing?

Stephen Edwards: My Hobbies are working out, watching soccer, football and spending time with friends and family when we are home. My favorite hobby is spending the whole day in bed with my wife Jenn making love, talking, snacking, watching movies and relaxing. We try to do that once a week. Jenn and I travel a lot so we like to go on adventures in the cities we visit, like hiking, biking, visiting friends and relaxing.

The relaxation is important in helping me connect with that higher power. I also thought the following might also be helpful;

My message is not religious it is a spiritual message. People often ask what is the difference between religion and spirituality. Here are some examples of the differences. I found this basic format by an anonymous author here on myspace.

SPIRITUALITY and RELIGION

There are some very real differences between what is called Spirituality and many Religions around the world. It has been my experience that religion is very limiting and by pointing out these differences it is my hope that you are able to free yourself of the religious bondage and truly find a meaningful relationship with God.

Spirituality says that God is within us, and that we do not need anyone else to make this particular divine connection for us.  Many religions say that we are separated from God, and that we cannot approach God directly.

Spirituality says that we are free to make choices on our own, and that we must accept personal responsibility for our actions. i.e Consequences. Many Religions say that we must make their choices and act their way, depending upon a given religious denomination's belief systems.

The theme of spirituality is fellowship through the employment of unconditional love˜.Meaning Without Conditions. Many religions control through fear and guilt.

Spirituality does not require us to make donations. Religions have become a big business.

Spirituality says there is no Hell, no judgment, no angry God, and that we are loved unconditionally. Many Religions say there is a Hell, God gets angry and judges us. Therefore, we are not loved unconditionally.

Spirituality says we are free to choose our own path to God. Many religions command us to do it their way, depending upon a particular religious denomination's beliefs.

Spirituality says we should not be ashamed of our sexuality. Rather, it should be a sacred celebration of love. Many religions have taught us to feel ashamed, guilty and dirty about our sexuality.

Spirituality says God is within everyone and everything, therefore we are all One. Many religions say God, everything and everyone is separate from us therefore we create a one is better than mentality. Many religions also teach that you cannot go directly to God, you must go through an intermediary.

Spirituality says we are born in innocence and purity. Many religions say we are born with sin.

Spirituality teaches that we are on a long spiritual adventure and journey, which will ultimately end by reuniting with our Source. Many religions say we have got one life to get it all right, and there is nothing but Heaven or Hell after that.

Spirituality teaches unconditional love for all. Many have been and continue to be murdered in the name of religion.

Spirituality teaches peace and harmony. Religion has caused more wars and more killing than any other reason.

Spirituality says we have all the answers, that we can find them by "going within.”

Religion teaches us that it has all the answers and only its answers are the right ones.

Spirituality teaches us to search for the Universal Truths, wherefrom our hearts will tell us when we have found them. Many religions teach we have no choice, but to accept their version of the Truth.
